Newly elected Senator Shamim Afridi joins PPP

ISLAMABAD – Newly elected independent Senator Shamim Afridi yesterday joined the Pakistan People’s Party. He announced the decision at a reception hosted by PPP Parliamentary Leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman here. PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed Afridi in the party.  Senator Sherry Rehman said the opposition’s strength in the Senate was growing which had panicked the government. She said the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s nominees for the Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman – Yousaf Raza Gillani and Maulana Ghafoor Haidri – will win keeping in mind the opposition’s strength. The reception was attended by Gillani, Faisal Karim Kundi, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Latif Khosa, Hamayun Khan, Saeed Ghani, Amjed Afridi and others. 

Earlier, newly elected Senator Abdul Qadir, who won election from Balochistan, joined the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.
