Indian accusations against Pakistan baseless: Rashid

ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Tuesday rejected India’s allegation of Pakistan’s interference in Indian Occupied Kashmir by sending terrorists in the troubled region and dubbed the accusations as “lies.”

Addressing a Press conference here at Headquarters of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), he said that the statement of Indian Minister of State for Defence that Pakistan was dispatching terrorists in Occupied Kashmir was “irresponsible” and India should give proofs to back its allegation.

“This (allegation) gives credence to our suspicions that India wanted to create problems (for Pakistan) on both eastern and western sides (borders).” The Interior Minister claimed that the whole border was fenced and there was no question of infiltration of any terrorist in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) from Pakistan side.

“Indian Minister should present the proof (of his allegations) if he has any,” he said. At the same time, Sheikh Rashid reiterated Pakistan’s all out support for the freedom movement in IIOJK but made it clear that “there is no interference from Pakistan’s side and this statement was totally wrong.”

Sheikh Rashid’s remarks came a day after Indian Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed the Upper House of Indian Parliament that a total 33 infiltration attempts were made along the Line of Control (LoC) in IIOJK during first six months of 2021.

Responding a query, he further claimed that 11 terrorists were killed along the LoC when they were trying to enter the occupied territory and 20 were detained.

Talking on the Dasu bomb blast, the Interior Minister said that all investigation in the case has been completed and Pakistan security agencies have done a “marvelous work.”

He quickly added that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in consultation with the Chinese officials should further give details on the probe report on a suitable time.

“But the (investigation) work entrusted to our institutions and agencies has been completed.”

Sheikh Rashid at the same time accused that Israeli, Indian, Afghan intelligence agency— National Directorate of Security (NDS), and Pakistan’s other enemies have been trying to defame the country.

He said that foreign media was wrongly putting blame of Afghanistan’s fast deteriorating situation on Pakistan.

“All (such efforts) are doomed to fail,” he said ,adding, that accusations that were being broadcast by international media against Pakistan were planned.

He reminded that Pakistan has given sacrifices of 80,000 people in the war of terror for peace.

“We want peace and we have no connection with politics in Afghanistan. But Afghanistan’s peace is linked with peace in Pakistan.”

He further said that Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan were sealed and even transportation of fruits through Chaman border crossing has also been suspended from the other side.

Talking on the security situation during Muharramul Haram, the Interior Minister said that the government would ensure security during the holy month and Chief Secretaries and police chiefs of federating units have been instructed that all mourning processions should be given fool proof security.

He said that the government has suspended 3G and 4G internet services in erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), now merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from one to 10th Muharram. He said that that more security measures were in the offing.

“The circumstances and situation in the country demanded that every Muslim should give proof of his national responsibility and participate for the safety and integrity of the country.”

Responding a question, he said all seven million national identity cards issued by NADRA before introduction of biometric system were being renewed as many fake cards were issued due to manual system at that time.

“All fake identity cards are being cancelled and those NADRA officials would be dismissed from service who were found involved in issuing such cards.”

On the issue of alleged abduction of daughter of Afghan Ambassador to Islamabad, he said that Pakistan has handed over all record of the investigation to the Afghan team and they had left for Afghanistan.

He said that Pakistan has sought access to the daughter of envoy and her cell phone but she was not cooperating with Pakistani authorities.

On Noor Mukadam murder case, he said that the names of all suspects linked to the murder including the main accused Zahir Jaffer, and his parents have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

He further informed that the decision to place the suspects on the no-fly list was taken in a meeting held on Monday.

Sheikh Rashid also told reporters that the government was planning to introduce integrated smart national identity cards to be used for all purposes including for driving and arm licences in country.
