Hum TV crowned RISJA Independence Cup champions
LAHORE – Hum TV clinched the 1st RISJA Inter-Media Independence Cup Cricket Tournament trophy after thrashing Geo TV by 9 wickets in the decisive final played at National Cricket Ground Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the tournament while Chairman RISJA Abdul Mohi Shah, President Ayaz Akbar, Park View City CEO Mian Umer Farooq Manan, NasGas corporate head Ijaz Akbar, former member of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Governing Board Shakil Sheikh and other dignities were also present during the concluding ceremony.
In the final of the tournament that was organized in collaboration with the Park View City and NasGas, Geo TV batted first and scored 82 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 12 overs. Hassam Ahmed scored 25 and Shahzad Iqbal scored 16 runs for Geo tv while Sameer Butt bowled two wickets. In reply, Hum TV achieved the target in the last over for one wicket. Hum Tv’s Sameer Butt emerged as man of the final match with unbeaten 53 runs.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain distributed prizes among the players. On becoming the champion of the tournament, a prize money of Rs 500,000 was handed over to the Hum TV captain while the Geo TV captain received runners-up prize money of Rs. 250,000. Sameer Butt was declared the best batsman of the tournament and Afzal Javed was declared the best bowler.
On the occasion, Federal Minister Fawad Hussain appreciated the efforts of RISJA for organizing the wonderful tournament and assured all possible cooperation and said that such healthy activities should be organized for the journalists.
