National T20 Cup: Kamran, Qasim take Central Punjab into final

A steady half-century from Central Punjab’s Kamran Akmal and a match-winning shot of Qasim took the team into the final as Central Punjab defeated Sindh in the second semi-final of the National T20 Cup here at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

For the first time, Central Punjab qualified for the final.

Sent into bat first, Opener Khurram Manzoor and Sharjeel Khan gave a fine start of 50 runs to their side. Khurram scored 34 runs while Sharjeel made 32 runs with the help of 5 fours and one maximum. Captain Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel could not enter into a double-figure. Slowly setting up, Sindh managed to put 141 runs on the scorecard in 20 overs. For Central Punjab, Qasim Akram clinched three wickets while Central Punjab’s captain Wahab and Zafar Gohar bagged two wickets each.

Chasing the target, Central Punjab’s opener Muhamamd Akhlaq didn’t prove himself and went back to the pavilion at just nine runs. Ahmed Shehzad stood firm and managed to gather a partnership of 88 runs with the help of his partner Kamran Akmal. Ahmed Shahzad missed his half-century by just 1 run as he was down by Sohail Khan. Taking towards victory, Kamran displayed a half-century on the scoreboard. The wicket-keeper batter scored 51 powered by 7 fours and one six. After Kamran left the crease, Hussain Talat and Qasim bravely faced the opponent and managed to register victory for Central Punjab.

For Sindh, Sohail Khan, Mir Hamza, and Abrar Ahmad took one wicket apiece. Qasim Akram emerged as player of the match for his stunning bowling figure.

Central Punjab will take on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the final of National T20 Cup 2021 today.
