Govt promoting book reading culture: Bangash  

Peshawar – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash on Thursday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision is to promote book reading culture across Pakistan. 

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has introduced best initiatives for youth like Books on Wheels, Digital Library etc for the promotion of book reading for youth so that 21st century digital book reading methods can be adopted. These views were expressed by Kamran Bangash while presiding over a meeting on Public Libraries at Archives and Libraries Peshawar head office. 

He said that in a society where wealth is superior to knowledge, ignorance grows.  He said that the role of youth is important in the development of nations. He said that 21st century approaches to public libraries need to be adopted, public libraries need to move towards further digitization and promote a culture of book reading. 

Bangash said that modern technologies have accelerated the active activities of all walks of life, which has led to changes in the lifestyle of human beings all over the world, but the role of libraries is not being emphasised much. He said that there is an urgent need to digitize the challenges of the 21st century and to move forward from old ways of reading books so that the youth can take more interest in it and benefit from the trend of the 21st century. He said that our focus is on making digital and smart libraries across the province.
