Int’l investors at Dubai expo agree to invest in KP energy sector
PESHAWAR – Secretary Energy Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah Monday said that domestic and foreign investors showed great interest in the energy sector at Dubai expo and agreed to invest in this sector.
During his visit to the expo, he said that the provincial government was implementing investor friendly policies and providing maximum facilities to them under one window operation. He said that the energy department has become a revenue generating entity in the province by generating 5 to 6 billion rupees revenues annually, adding that during the current fiscal year the department would increase hydel power generation capacity from 161 MW to 212 MW that would help generate Rs 10 billion annually.
Similarly, he said that PEDO was currently working on seven hydel power projects including 10.2 MW Jabori, 11.8MW Karora, 40.0MW Koto, 84MW Matlatan, 69MW Lavi, 10.5MW Charkhel and 5.6MW Baranda, said a press release issued here. He said work on 300MW Balakot hydel power project would be initiated this year with the financial support of Asian Development Bank, while the World Bank would help in construction of 88MW Kabral Kalam hydel power project and 157MW Madain hydel power project.
The secretary energy further informed that work on 197MW Kalam – Israit and 215 MW Israit – Kaedam hydel power project is being started in Swat on public – private partnership with the Korean government.
In order to generate cheap electricity the KP government has introduced a unique model and established its own grid company for provision of electricity from new power projects. He assured the investors that the KP government would provide all facilities to them. Later various investors signed MoUs with the KP government for promotion of the energy sector.
