The harmonium was created 230 years ago in the West but it is now associated to the East, particularly the sub-continent to such an extent that people believe it to be an Indian instrument. The first prototype was designed by Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein who was a professor of psychology at the University of Copenhagen, with a deep passion for music. His creation was quite unique and when he was not conducting psychology experiments, he was playing around with the Sheng, a Chinese instrument that inspired the creation of the Harmonium.
