RDA requests PEMRA to restrain channels from airing ads of illegal housing societies

Rawalpindi - On the direction of Director General (DG) Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Capt. (Retd) Tahir Zafar Abbasi, RDA has requested Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to restrain private TV channels from airing advertisements of illegal housing societies, RDA spokesman said on Saturday.
The spokesman said that RDA has written letters to Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Chairman NAB, Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Cyber Crime Islamabad, Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Islamabad, SNGPL Islamabad, District Collector Rawalpindi, District Council Rawalpindi and Commissioner Islamabad requesting them to block bank and social media accounts, WhatsApp, YouTube and other apps of the owners/ followers of the illegal housing societies mushrooming across the district.
He said that the civic body following the increasing complaints against owners of illegal private housing societies’ looting spree in shape of advertisements on TV channels and social media took concrete steps to save innocent people from fraudsters.
He said the DG RDA has advised the citizens/ investors not to invest their hard-earned money in these illegal housing societies. Moreover, sponsors are also warned to stop the marketing of their unapproved/ illegal housing schemes immediately and contact RDA for getting NOC/ approval of the scheme as per law; otherwise, strict legal action will be taken against them.
Director General RDA Capt. (R) Tahir Zafar Abbasi directed the MP&TE Directorate to take strict action against these schemes, constructions and commercial activities, booking offices and encroachments without any fear and favour, he added.
