We played with positive mindset but losing is part of the game: Babar

LAHORE - Pakistan captain Babar Azam said that they played with positive mindset but couldn’t deliver and lost the series decider.
“We had a simple plan that was to take the momentum in hand first and then think about the target after the tea. But once our wickets fell and we had some ‘soft dismissals’ then our plan became to do as best we could. We went in with a positive mind and in the dressing room, the talk was about going for a chase,” said Babar Azam during a virtual post-match press conference here on Friday.
“In my view, we played positive cricket. We always play according to the match situation and not needlessly play shots. We fought outstandingly in the three Test matches. The pitch and conditions were same for both sides so the pitch was fine. In the second innings, our wickets fell quickly and due to this factor, the situation went out of control and resulted in a loss,” the skipper added.
Babar Azam added that the decision to play pace bowler Naseem Shah in the test was part of the plan and the team got benefit in the first inning. “Naseem Shah did an outstanding job in the first innings. Our mindset was to play a bowler with more pace and I feel we were successful in our plan about this.”
To a query regarding Hasan Ali, Babar said: “Sometimes you try your best but things don’t happen for you which is part of the game as you can have ups and downs but I have full faith in Hassan Ali. He has always played good cricket and won us matches and as a captain, I have the same belief in his abilities as I had before.”
I AM HAPPY TO WIN SERIES
ABOARD, says PAT CUMMINS
Australian Captain Pat Cummins has said that playing cricket in Pakistan has been a great experience and he is satisfied and happy to win the cricket series abroad.
“I had complete confidence in the bowlers in the test series that they will get wickets in these conditions and I am delighted on my team’s victory as winning the series abroad always gives confidence,” said Cummins while addressing a press conference after winning the third and final Test and series 1-0.
He added the confidence gained from the series success against Pakistan would be beneficial in the next series. “You try to get results in every test, against Pakistan, we got the result at the end of the test series.” He said his players batted and bowled well and played good cricket in the Ashes series.
“Even in Pakistan, the players played good cricket, it would be difficult to name any one, cricket has been a great experience here.”
