CTD thwarts terror attack on political rallies in Islamabad

ISLAMBAD - The law enforcement agencies on Tuesday claimed to have thwarted terror attack on political rallies in the federal capital and arrested four suspected terrorists linking to banned outfit. However, another accomplice of the detained suspected terrorist managed to escape from the scene.

The LEAs also informed that huge quantity of explosive and two detonators were recovered from the possession of the suspected terrorists identified as Muhammad Mohsin Ali, Muhammad Ismail, Zafran Khan, and Muhammad Shehzad. The fleeing suspected terrorist has been identified as Muhammad Awais.

A First Information Report under 7 Anti-Terrorism and 4/5 Explosive Acts has also been registered against the detained suspects.

In a statement, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Islamabad said that Station House Officer of Police Station CTD was present at Zero Point on Srinagar Highway for surveillance when the informer shared that some suspicious persons were present at jungle area near Pakistan Monument with explosive in their hands.

The SHO along with his team raided the place where they were hiding in the area and arrested four suspects while one managed to escape the scene. The CTD recovered a blue plastic shopping bag containing explosives.

During course of investigation, the detained suspects revealed that they were planning to carry on a terrorist attack on a public rally of political party in Islamabad.

A senior officer of Islamabad police, when contacted, confirmed the development saying the CTD had presented the suspected terrorists before Anti-Terrorism Court and obtained their physical remand for further investigation. Raids are being carried out to arrest the fifth fleeing terrorist, he informed.
