City managers to spend ‘millions’ to fix damages caused by PTI supporters on Parade Ground

ISLAMABAD - The participants of a power show organised by the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf at parade ground on Sunday caused a loss of millions to the public property by damaging it up to a large scale.
The ruling party had gathered its thousands of supporters from the entire country to show solidarity with Prime Minister Imran Khan in response to a no-trust motion tabled by the joint opposition in the National Assembly against him.
According to the sources inside the civic body, PTI supporters who were supposed to be the educated and a civilised lot of the country have been proved ill-mannered and unorganised as compared to the supporters of Jamiat Ullema Islam led by Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman.
“Both the parties were holding public gatherings at two different locations of the city at the same time,” an officer informed the Nation, adding: “But, there was no damage to the public property by JUI workers while the other ones ruined a large part of the parade ground causing loss of millions to the exchequer.”
Well placed sources informed that instead of going for an open tender, the city managers have decided to fix the damages caused by PTI through ‘quotations’ to hide the actual figures of loss caused to the public exchequer.
The repair work on damages to parade ground was assigned to different directorates of the Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad to be immediately done without going into a competitive process.
Resultantly, directorates of Machinery Pool Division, Sanitation, Environment and Maintenance swung into action and repaired most of the damaged things. All the damaged plants and trees are replaced while synthetic grass is also replaced by the environment directorate.
The participants of the PTI’s public gathering had also damaged the washrooms that have been repaired and made functional while all the missing nozzles of the fountains and water taps have been reinstalled. Meanwhile, a damaged canvas shade stand of the sitting enclosure has also been repaired by the contractors and also placed orders for a new fabric container that went missing during the public gathering.
On the other side, the damaged fence was also repaired which was rotten on many points while the sanitation staff also carried out cleanliness drives on the entire parade ground.
When contacted, CDA Director Public Relations Syed Asif Shah expressed his ignorance about any extraordinary work done on-site. He said it is a routine matter that we do such cleanliness and maintenance after every such an event.
