Bilawal Bhutto condemns Punjab Assembly's closure

'constitutional breach'

ISLAMABAD   -   Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Wednesday condemned the Punjab government for locking out the Punjab Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, calling it a blatant breach of the law and the constitution.

The Punjab Assembly building was sealed off with barbed wires and the building's main gate was locked before the opposition lawmakers, led by the PML-N, reached there to elect the new Chief Minister.  “If it takes 30seconds to pull off a coup, it should take 30secs to undo a coup. Justice delayed is Justice denied. After last weeks constitutional break down in Islamabad. Today Punjab dep speaker was locked out of assembly on day of voting for CM. Barbered wire around ppls house,” tweets the PPP leader. Bilawal further said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s last abysmal steps cannot save him, adding that PTI government was gone. In another tweet, he said, “None of Imran khans desperate measures can save him now. his government is gone. Selected raj is over. The people are watching, history will record, how he was brought in undemocratically and on his way out he set the constitution on fire.” He said that the nation was waiting for Supreme Court verdict in the no-confidence motion case.

PPP’s Mian Raza Rabbani and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Makhdoom Khan have presented their arguments in the court. “We are waiting for the court’s decision. We are discussing all the options with the allies. Democracy will be the ultimate winner,” PPP leader Farhatullah Babar said.

Talking to The Nation, he said the PPP was hopeful of a favourable decision by the Supreme Court as Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri had clearly violated the constitution in his ruling to avoid the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said the PPP was prepared for the elections but wanted to correct violation of the constitution by the deputy speaker. Faisal Kundi, another PPP leader, said Imran Khan could not escape the public wrath despite constitutional violations. “He can do whatever he wants but in the end the rules will win. Imran Khan is trying to prove a massive majority of the country as traitors.
