PTI rejects PM’s offer to probe ‘lettergate’

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday rejected an offer of the newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to probe the controversial diplomatic cable that allegedly contained the threat to topple the government of ex-prime minister Imran Khan. Former federal minister and PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a Twitter statement said that they reject the call of PM Shehbaz to investigate the “lettergate scandal” through the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. He said that it was a futile effort of the government to give an NRO-like deal to themselves.

Fawad says SC should form judicial commission

“The Supreme Court should form an independent commission to investigate the lettergate that should be headed by such a person on which no one can object to.” Following his successful election as prime minister, Shehbaz announced that he would be arranging an in-camera briefing of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security to determine authenticity of the cable. He said that the meeting would be attended by the military leadership and the ambassador who sent the cable to Foreign Office.
