Profiteers fined for overcharging

KARACHI - As many as 2,700 profiteers were fined with over Rs12.8 million during first two weeks of Ramazan by the Karachi district administration.

Besides, 22 profiteers were sent to jail for violating officially fixed prices, according to a report submitted to Commissioner Karachi on Monday. Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon had asked the deputy commissioners to continue the campaign against the profiteers and ensure the success of efforts being made by the city administration to provide relief to the masses. He said prices fixed by the City administration should be enforced strictly.

Food mart fined for overcharging of essential items in Hyderabad

The district administration has intensified action against the sale of groceries at excessive prices during the month of Ramazan and imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on Max Bachat Mart.

On the direction of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, Mukhtiarkar Altaf Korejo visited Max Bachat Mart on Monday and imposed a fine of Rs60,000 for overcharging prices of essential items.

Meanwhile, on the special directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, the revenue officers on Monday continued their action to ensure sale of food items at fixed prices during holy month of Ramazan and recovered fine of Rs118,500 from 26 shopkeepers.

In Latifabad, AC Muhammad Iqbal Awan visited various markets of the taluka and collected a fine of Rs5,000 from 5 shopkeepers.

In taluka Rural, AC Surhan Aijaz Abro took action against profiteers and recovered fine of Rs3,500 from 7 shopkeepers.

The Mukhtiarkar City Ali Sher visited various markets and collected fines of Rs50,000 from 11 shopkeepers for violating the fixed prices. In Qasimabad taluka, AC Gada Hussain Soomro paid visit to different markets and collected fine of Rs60,000 from 3 shopkeepers.

The district administration also issued warnings to 13 shopkeepers not to charge over pricing of essential items.
