ISLAMABAD - US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on Wednesday called on former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan at his residence in Bani Gala.
Both sides discussed Islamophobia and related issues while Ilhan expressed her admiration for Khan’s work against Islamophobia globally, senior PTI leader and former federal minister Dr Shireen Mazari said this in a twitter statement after the meeting. PTI chairman Imran Khan appreciated Ilhan’s courageous and principled position on issues, she added.
For the last many days since his ouster through a no-confidence vote, Imran Khan had been campaigning that his government was toppled down through a US-led conspiracy, an allegation that the US has out rightly rejected. The meeting of Khan with Ilhan, the first Muslim woman elected to Congress in US, provided an opportunity to the ruling party to criticise the former prime minister.
A separate statement issued by the PTI’s central media department said that PTI’s vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and other party leaders including Asad Umar, Dr Shireen Mazari, Zulfi Bukhari, and Dr Shahbaz Gill were also present in the meeting. During the meeting, matters pertaining to Islamophobia, and bilateral as well as mutual issues came under discussion, the statement said.
