Centre likely to restart process of hiring MDs for govt owned PLL, PPL
Islamabad – The federal government is likely to restart the process of hiring Managing Directors/Chief Executives for government owned Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) after scrapping the previous procedure in this regard.
Following the Cabinet Division directive, procedure has been restarted for the appointment of MDs/CEOs of both the state owned entities of PLL and PPL, official source said The Nation. The source said that the earlier process in this regard has been cancelled.
The PTI government was running the affairs of both the state owned entities PPL and PLL on ad hoc basis for almost the entire tenure. The post of MD/CEO of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has been vacant since March, 2018, while the post of Pakistan LNG Limited has been vacant since August 2019. Pakistan LNG Limited was established by the previous PML-N government to deal with the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Currently, both the entities are heading by the acting MDs/CEOs. The extension of services for both the acting MDs of the PLL and PPL had been done by their respective Board of Directors.
However, during the final months of the PTI government in office, the process for the hiring of the permanent MDs/CEOs was started. A panel of three selected candidates for each post has been forwarded to the federal cabinet for approval. However, no final notification was made by the federal government on the final appointment, the source said. Another source said that the federal cabinet, on emergency basis, through circulation had approved the appointment of MDs. Since no notification of the appointment was issued, therefore the decision has been cancelled, the source claimed. It has yet to decide whether the government will hire the MDs/CEOs from the existing summaries already evaluated by the BODs of both the companies or the government will start fresh process for the hiring, the source said.
