Admin reviews preparations for anti-polio campaign starting from next month

LAHORE  -  Deputy Commissioner Umar Sher Chattha said that no negligence would be tolerated in the forthcoming polio immunisation campaign starting from May 23 for seven days in the provincial capital. He was chairing a meeting regarding arrangements for the campaign at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday. District health officer (DHO), focal persons, representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) and other officials concerned attended the meeting. The DC said: “Polio is a big issue for the country; therefore, we will have to strive for its eradication.” He warned that no one would be allowed to show careless attitude towards the campaign. He said that immunisation of every child below five years of age of the city would be ensured. Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner issued special instructions to the districts officers and assistant commissioners to monitor the supply chain of the Ramazan bazaars so that smooth supply and sale of commodities could be ensured at all such bazaars. He said that Ramazan bazaars would remain functional till 30th of Ramazan.


762,472 KIDS TO BE VACCINATED


Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Imran Qureshi has said that a three-day national anti-polio drive will be launched in the district from May 24 to 27 and 762,472 children under five years of age will be vaccinated.


He was presiding over a meeting of district anti-polio committee, which was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Sialkot Farooq Akmal, Chief Executive Officer Health Authority Sialkot Dr Muhammed Aslam Chaudhry, DHOs Dr Wasim Mirza, Dr Muhammad Adnan and local representatives of relevant departments.


Addressing the meeting, the DC said that to make the national campaign a success, 1,941 mobile teams would go door to door, 133 teams in rural and primary health centres and hospitals, 68 roaming and transit teams would be on duty to vaccinate children at lorry adda, squares, intersections and important markets.


The meeting was attended by civil and administrative officers of all departments, scholars and others. The deputy commissioner said, “We have to work together to ensure eradication of polio because there is a huge loss due to negligence.”
