IG suspends SP on charges of harassing cop

ISLAMABAD - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas has suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) Security Supreme Court on charges of sexually harassing a lady cop, informed sources on Saturday.
The suspended SP has been identified as Muhammad Auqab (BS-18), who was closed to Central Police Office (CPO), they said.
According to details, a female constable of Islamabad police, deputed on security duty at Supreme Court of Pakistan, appeared before IGP Muhammad Ahsan Younas and lodged complaint that SP Security SCP Muhammad Auqab has been sexually harassing her. She appealed the top cop to initiate departmental action against SP.
Taking action, the police chief marked the complaint to anti-harassment committee ordering it to hold inquiry into the allegations, they added. The AHC comprising DIG Headquarters, DIG Operations, SSP Security, SP HQs and DSP Legal summoned both parties and conducted a detailed inquiry besides recording their statements. The SP facing allegation of harassment could not prove himself innocent during the inquiry on which the AHC declared him guilty besides recommending strict departmental action against him. In the light of report of inquiry committee, IGP Muhammad Ahsan Younas has placed SP Muhammad Auqab under suspension. “All senior and junior police officers will have to answerable about their conduct,” said IG in a statement adding that those police officers earning bad name for police department have to face strict accountability.
