ECP to be ready for elections by end of October: Secretary

ISLAMABAD   -    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that delimitations were held across the country on the final report of the census. While talking to the media, Secretary ECP Omar Hamid Khan said that the commission would be ready for the elections by the end of October and the decision regarding elections would be taken by the government. The Secretary said that due to amendment of Article 51, the delimitations were held in the country on the transitional census. If there is a new census, the report must be submitted by December 31 so that timely elections can be held as soon as the constitutional term of the Assemblies expires, he said. Interestingly, he said that by-elections will be held in old constituencies in Punjab. The Secretary ECP Omar Hamid Khan has said that the place of voters has not been changed in Lahore by-elections, the allegation of PTI is not true. He said that the process of voting overseas Pakistani is different and work is still continuing on it. The number of voters in the country is 124,82,302, the number of male voters is 65,657,536 and the number of female voters is 54,824,766. While lashing out at former ruling party PTI, he said that they have reviewed the EVM, adding that the current legislation doesn’t have the signature of President Arif Alvi. He added that it was the duty of the commission to work  on new technologies,adding, that the ECP is an independent and constitutional institution of the country. The responsibility of the commission was to  conduct free and fair  elections across the country.he said.added that preparation of electoral rolls was the first and most important step. ‘’According to section 27 of elections Act 2017 , the vote can be registered only at the permanent or temporary address of the national identity card’’, he said.
