ISLAMABAD - Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Wednesday once again called on his supporters to be prepared as he would be giving a date for the ‘biggest protest in country’s history’ within a few days.
At the same time, he made a call for his protest conditional with the permission of the Supreme Court.
“We are only confirming from our lawyers because we are seeking preparation (from the Supreme Court) while remaining within law,” he said while addressing the party’s National Council here at his residence in Bani Gala.
Former prime minister Khan said that PTI had approached the Supreme Court and as soon as the apex court would give him clearance for the protest, he would give the date for the protest. “We would hold the biggest protest in the country’s history,” he said and added, “This is our right…I am telling you all to be prepared.” He said that all party’s organizations have been issued similar instructions.
“This is very important time for all of you because PTI is the only federal party, others two have limited themselves to interior Sindh and central Punjab,” he said while referring to ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He added that PTI was the only political party that could keep the country together.
“We have to go with full force for our campaign for true freedom in the next phase,” he said. He claimed that enemies wanted to weaken the PTI and Pakistan Army and those forces that were hostile for both were very happy over the election of Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister.
“I don’t think of this as politics, I think of it as jihad for the country,” he said amid slogans of the party supporters and leaders. He said that the biggest responsibility falls on the PTI as the status quo parties have joined hands but masses stood by his party. This rarely happens in the country’s history, he added. He hoped that PTI would become the only party that would lead the country towards “real independence and democracy.”

This means that they have not seized power for the betterment of the country but only to end corruption cases registered against them. He accused the ruling parties that they wanted to end corruption cases registered against their leadership by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by appointing their blue-eyed officers in these institutions. The ex-premier chided the government saying it would not dare to take any step without the “permission” of the United States. He said that if the government actually cared about inflation, it would have made efforts to buy cheap oil from Russia without any delay. He added that the current rulers would not take any steps that would anger the US. “This is because those having billions of dollars stashed abroad can never take a stand for the nation.”
He underlined that load-shedding and water scarcity were the two biggest problems of the country. He said that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) had been getting direct foreign loans for the last few years to construct dams in the country. But it is now writing on the wall that the agency would not get loans keeping in view the dwindling economy of the country. He said that the country has witnessed the highest ever inflation and prices of fuel, electricity and gas in its history.
He concluded that the present rulers have seized power not to benefit masses but to fulfill their agenda and to protect foreign interests.
Earlier, the National Council of PTI elected Imran Khan as the party’s chairman unopposed for another term while Asad Umar was elected as Secretary General. The council elected Shah Mahmood Qureshi as vice chairman of PTI.
