ISLAMABAD - Since the PTI members have so far not appeared before the National Assembly Speaker for verification of their resignations, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, two days before the deadline of verification, seems close to taking a final decision.
“I will soon take a decision over the submitted resignations of PTI MNAs,” said Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, talking to the newsmen, after addressing a one-day workshop on Technical Reporting on Budget for Parliamentary Reporters organised by Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS). The Speaker National Assembly said there was a procedure for accepting resignations of Members of the National Assembly. “There are certain rules and regulations for accepting and judging the authentication of resignations,” he said, mentioning there were doubts about the genuineness of some submitted resignations.
To a question, he said even that some PTI members whose resignations are in the National Assembly Secretariat have contacted him. He said that the salary of all members who submitted their resignations have been withheld from the date of resignation. The Speaker also paid tribute to the Parliamentary Reporters Association, PIPS and Directorate General of Media National Assembly Secretariat for successful organization of this workshop.
He said, “Today is the age of information and the role of media has become more pivotal and crucial.” He added that reporting for parliamentary proceedings and conveying information in proper context was the prime responsibility of reporters. e said that budget was quite technical procedure and it was important to understand this. He said that at present the country was going through difficult times and in such times they have to support each other. The NA Speaker said that media had to play an important role in solving problems of the country. He also said that Pakistani nation was determined and had the capability to overcome challenges.
