Bangash launches project for students to promote peace

Peshawar – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash on Wednesday launched a project to harness universities’ students for peace.

The project is aimed to harness university students as well as faculty members, who will receive various trainings on topics like diversity management, leadership abilities and digital citizens in the context of promoting peace in the educational setups.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Kamran Bangash said that Higher Education Regulatory Authority (HERA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has signed an agreement with Community Resilience Activity–North (CRA-N) to capacitate universities’ students and faculty members to promote peace and harmony. He said that the project is in line with the provincial government’s vision and mission to engage youth in productive activities which are essential for sustainable peace.

The event was also attended by MPA Shafiq Khan Afridi, Chairman HERA Fazl-e-Qadir, Secretary HERA Sajid Inam, a large gathering from academia, different government officials, students, and donor agencies. Furthermore, vice-chancellors of different universities including Kohat University, FATA University, Gandhara University and Khyber Medical University Peshawar were also present on the occasion.

Member HERA Dr Yasir Kamal presented a briefing on ‘Role of HERA in strengthening Higher Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Kamran Bangash elaborated that under the project, HERA will impart training to 300 students and 100 faculty members of universities for promoting peace and harmony in the educational setups.  He said the project will be implemented by Higher Education Regulatory Authority with technical and financial support from Community Resilience Activity-North.
