Agriculture investment

According to reports, Iran’s Consul General Hassan Noorian met with Sindh Chief Minister’s Agriculture Advisor Manzoor Wassan on Thursday, during which bilateral cooperation in the economic and agricultural sectors was reviewed. According to sources, the Consul General reportedly offered the Sindh government tractors, combine harvesters, and other agricultural machinery.

Iran has also shown a desire to spend $25 million in Sindh’s agricultural and other areas. This is a much-appreciated gesture on Tehran’s behalf, and it is also something that is urgently needed given the country’s agricultural problems. Climate change, water constraints, seed quality, and other management concerns have all reduced yield in recent years.

According to reports, Iran is giving Pakistan seeds, cold storage, and hybrid seed at lower prices than other countries.

Given the challenges faced by farmers in Sindh due to water scarcity, the introduction of new agricultural technologies and less water-intensive seeds could be beneficial. Pakistan has been spending on research and development to develop seeds that are better suited to the country’s environment and boost yield. As a result, we can request major technical support from Tehran in order to restructure our agriculture industry.

We must strengthen our ties and interdependencies with our western neighbours, particularly in the areas of trade and security. In terms of security, there are obviously shared worries about terror groups operating across the border, and there is a significant possibility for cooperation as well. Our relations with Iran have likewise been friendly, but many people believe that the relationship’s full potential has never been realised due to a variety of external causes. Nonetheless, there are other areas where the two countries may collaborate, and it is critical for Pakistan to reciprocate and take advantage of such changes since it is critical to maintain friendly relations with countries in your region.

ZAIRA TUFAIL,

Sindh.
