The good news is that Pakistan has apprised US of its concerns on the situation emerging in response to US drone attacks in its bordering areas with Afghanistan. In the meeting of Tripartite Commission held at the General Headquarters on April 11, Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani interacted with the top US and NATO commander General David Mckiernan and Afghan General Bismillah. General Kayani demanded an end to drone attacks and stressed the need for enhancing intelligence sharing between the three countries. Kayani also suggested making liaison centers along the Pak-Afghan border for tracking down movement of terrorists. It has been learnt that General Mckiernan agreed with General Kayani on enhancing intelligence sharing so that the movement of terrorists could be tracked better. He also assured the Pakistani side that NATO respects the sovereignty of Pakistan and would never overstep its mandate. He said it would confine its military operations to Afghanistan. -ENGR.MUNAWAR HUSSAIN, via e-mail, April 12.
