Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has urged the corporate sector of Republic of Korea to enhance their joint ventures and direct investment particularly in power generation, steel, automobile and communication sectors. While welcoming increased interests shown by the Korean companies in chemicals, infrastructure and hydal power generation projects in Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated that his government would like major Korean corporations like Lottee Groups involvement in construction of Karachi Islamabad Motorway. The Prime Minister was talking to Mr Chong Joo Choi, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea who called on him at the PMs House here on Thursday. The Prime Minister welcomed the interest of Korean Government in undertaking construction of 100 Bed Hospital in Multan out of its official development assistance of $ 200 Million committed at Tokyo Donors Conference in 2009 and assured the Ambassador of his governments required facilitation in that regard. He also assured the Ambassador that his government would try its utmost to resolve the pending issues relating to Korean companies investment projects in the country. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries which at present was around Rs one Billion would be enhanced to make it commensurate with warmth in bilateral relations as well as to its real potential. The Prime Minister underlined the fact that while high level bilateral visits from Pakistan to Korean had taken place in past, a Head of State or Head of Government from Republic of Korea was still awaited. He asked the Ambassador to convey his invitation to the President and Prime Minister of Republic of Korea to visit Pakistan at their earliest convenience. The Ambassador of Korea briefed the PM about the plans and present status of Korean corporate sectors involvement in various sectors of Pakistans economy as well as of the fact of further prospects of expanding economic cooperation between the two sides. He stated that he would like the volume of trade between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea to be doubled during his tenure of duty in Pakistan and would undertake every possible measure to enhance the commercial relations. The Ambassador invited the Prime Minister to the ground breaking ceremony of 150 MW Patrind Hydro Power Project which the Consortium of Korean companies: Sambu Corporation, K-Water and Daewoo E&C;would be undertaking by buying the Projects shares of worth $ 331 Million. The Prime Minister told the Ambassador that his office would coordinate with the Ambassador of Korea to schedule the ceremony at the earliest possible.
