Lahore police resorted to baton charge on the activists of the banned organization Hizbut Tahrir and arrested around 16 of the members in order to stop them from starting a protest rally at the Qartaba Chowk. The protesters were carrying banners against the US and Pakistan government over which police officials cordoned off the area to arrest the activists of the banned organization. A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a station house officer (SHO) of the Lytton Road Police Station were also injured when some activists of the organization retaliated against police in order to avoid arrest. Although Hizbut Tahrir is a banned outfit and cannot stage protests openly in public, yet police brutality as was witnessed on that day should be condemned. KHURRAM SALEEM, Islamabad, April 20.
