ISLAMABAD (INP) - The Saudi government gave Rs 30 million to the Ministry Of Religious Affairs in compensation for the troubles the Pakistani pilgrims had faced during Haj the last year. The sum, amounting to more than Rs 30 million, was to be paid by the parliamentarians and journalists who had performed Haj free of cost. The Saudi government compensated and gave the amount to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. According to a private TV channel, the Saudi government deposited the amount on the request of Interior Minister Rehman Malik. Investigations have also been undertaken in Pakistan to expose the culprits of the Haj scandal. Former federal religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi and a number of officials have been arrested and interrogation is underway.
