LAHORE (APP): The representatives of Wapda unions on Wednesday called upon the government to establish new coal and hydel power plants to meet the demand of electricity in the country. The voice was raised here at the 67th national general body meeting of Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union (CBA. The speakers demanded the government to help recovering Rs 210 billion of WAPDA from KESC and other governmental and non-governmental organizations. They also demanded that power pilferage should be checked and awarded strict punishment to the pilferers under electricity act. They called upon the government to merge all the 14 electric companies under the administrative control of WAPDA to check the expenses and anomalies in this sector. The meeting unanimously re-elected Khurshid Ahmed as general secretary, Abdul Latif Nizamani president, Haji Muhammad Ramzan Achakzai joint president, Yaqoob Khan chairman and Haji Malik Noor Muhammad deputy chairman. The meeting through a resolution demanded the government to impose heavy taxes on landlords and capitalist, and bring down the prices of petrol and diesel.
