LAHORE– Inspector General of Police Punjab Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman has urged the police officers to wipe out the criminal elements from the society in order to win the confidence of the public.

He was addressing the officers and Jawans at Police Lines Sahiwal on Friday. District Police Officer Sahiwal, Rana Ayyaz Saleem, President Sahiwal Chamber Rana Rustam Akhtar, all DSPs, and a good number of policemen and media-men were also present.

According to an official handout, the IGP said that it was a matter of great concern for the police that an ordinary citizen feels hesitation at the present time while visiting a police station even for the redressal of genuine grievances. He said that the police officers should discharge their duties with dedication and commitment and never succumb to any political pressure, force or materialism so that the lost dignity of the police department could be restored. He further told the officers and Jawans that it was the basic responsibility of the police to bring the criminals to justice.

Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman further said that establishment of two Model Police Stations in each district of the Punjab province has been ordered. He said that well-educated policemen would be deployed at these police stations and they would get cordial working atmosphere so that they could behave politely and gently with the citizens. The IGP further said that the police martyred are the valuable assets of the department and the nation as well. He said that according to the new policy, two family members of each Shaheed policeman would be recruited in the police department while the financial assistance would be increased twofold. The IGP also expressed satisfaction over the performance of DPO Sahiwal Ayyaz Saleem and asked him to step up his efforts to turn Sahiwal into Crime Free District and to provide justice to the people at grass root level. Later, the IGP also administered oath from the police officers and officials that they would never accept bribe and prefer Halal livelihood for their families.

Earlier, DPO Sahiwal while addressing the ceremony discussed the problems being faced by the department due to the shortage of police force. The DPO also demanded more police force to effectively counter crimes and asked the IGP that the long-standing pending cases regarding promotion of police officers should be decided at the earliest.

IGP Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman assured the DPO that all their problems would be addressed on priority.

Meanwhile, the IGP Punjab ordered postings and transfers of two following officers.

According to the notification, Hanif Ahmed SP VVIP Security Rawalpindi has been transferred and posted as Additional SP Rawal Town Rawalpindi whereas Matloob Ahmad Malik has been closed to Police Headquarters Punjab.
