KP to have 300 small dams

MINGORA - Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday announced construction of 300 small dams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide cheap electricity and eliminate loadshedding.
Addressing a public meeting at Khawaza Khela in Swat held in connection with by-elections in PK-86 constituency on Sunday, the PTI chief also announced the establishment of an independent accountability commission and said no one including ministers, MNAs, MPAs, and corrupt officers would escape from accountability.
He said he would not allow corrupt practices and vowed to make KP a model province having a vast difference from other provinces.
He said the province can provide electricity for the whole of the country but regretted that former governments did not pay attention to the construction of small dams.
He said work is in progress on a small dam in Kalam which would provide cheap electricity to the locals and they would not face load shedding anymore.
He also referred to the dilapidated condition of roads in Swat and assured the people to speak with National Highway Authority (NHA), which is responsible for their maintenance. He assured that if the NHA failed to carry out the repair of the roads, the provincial government will build road up to Kalam.
The PTI chief said that the country received massive assistance for the IDPs during war against militants in Swat but the money did not reach the people. He said people would be made accountable for this.
He said KPK police have been made non-political and had it been so in Karachi, the situation in the biggest city of the country would have been different.
He said they are bringing in a uniform system of education in KPK and this would bring an end to a divide between the poor and rich. He described it as an educational revolution.
Imran Khan also announced to build sports grounds first at every tehsil level and them at union council level to explore the talent of the sports men. He said being a former fast bowler he was keen for speedy development in KPK but the speed for development and prosperity was not as fast as he wanted. He however made a commitment to change the map of the province in five years. He asked the people of Swat to vote for his party’s candidate in the by-elections, as voting for the old defeated horses in the race would be a serious mistake.
