KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has made a telephonic contact with IG Sindh Police, Allah Dino Khawaja and expressed grief over martyrdom of seven policemen in a brazen attack in Karachi.
According to a statement of Sindh Police released on Thursday, the Army Chief, in his telephonic conversation, deplored the loss of lives in terrorist attack and extended his full cooperation to Sindh police.
“Terrorists will be eliminated from provinces. Police will be assisted everywhere and at every level,” officials quoted the army chief as saying. They said General Raheel appreciated police’s role in the ongoing anti-criminal operation in Karachi.
The army chief offered his condolence with grieved families of martyred policemen.
Motorcycle gunmen on Wednesday shot dead seven policemen guarding a polio vaccination team in Karachi’s Orangi Town locality, a brazen attack in the country's economic hub. Eight gunmen carried out the killings in two separate attacks.
IG Sindh has announced Rs.5 million reward for the arrest of the gunmen, as well as Rs.2 million compensation to each of the victims' families.
IG claims that the attackers have been identified.
Talking to the media, IG Sindh Khawaja announced a $50,000 reward for the arrest of the gunmen, as well as $20,000 compensation to each of the victims’ families.
Officials said police meanwhile carried out ‘targeted actions’ in different areas, including Defence and Shireen Jinnah Colony, arresting at least eight suspects including a woman in connection with the attack.
