Growers of the district protested against the inordinate delay in supply of gunny bags and demanded the PASSCO ensure early distribution of bags.

Briefing the media men, Kissan Board Gujranwala Division President Aman Ullah Chattha said that wheat-harvesting is in full swing but due to shortage of gunny bags, poor farmers are constrained to sell their commodities at Rs1,150 to Rs1,200 per 40-kg against minimum support price of Rs1,300 per 40-kg.

He alleged that the Passco is deliberately delaying supply of gunny bags which is tantamount to anti-grower policy.

He demanded immediate distribution of gunny bags to facilitate the farmers.

STUDENTS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS: The Zakat and Ushr Department is playing its due role to provide financial assistance to the poor and deserving students, said District Zakat Officer Zaheer Ashraf. He was distributing scholarships worth Rs96,750 to 43 students in Government College for Boys here the other day. On the occasion, he said that the department would continue monetary assistance to the poor and deserving students to enable them to brighten their future.
