IIUI spring gala starts with book fair

islamabad - Spring Gala of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) commenced with a two-day book fair at the new campus of the university which was inaugurated by the President IIUI Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Dariweesh.
Spring Gala 2016 of the university is series of more than 30 events such as literary events, social events, book-fair, speeches, sports, exhibitions and seminars in which a large number of university students would showcase their talent.
Book fair which is a kick-off activity of the varsity’s spring gala, is being organized by the Student Advisor’s Office and Central Library of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).
In the book fair about 50 renowned publishers from across the country have set their book stalls and books are being sold with 50 % discount. The organizers of the book-fair have said that aim to organize book fair is to promote reading culture among the students.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that knowledge beautifies and raises social, cultural and intellectual level and the book leads to ascension of humanity. “Quran and Sunnah are the basic sources of all the branches of knowledge and seeking knowledge is obligatory for all Muslims irrespective of gender”. Dr. Al-Draiweesh added.
President IIU further said that books play important role in developing and reshaping the societal norms and cultural values; books are the most important source to disseminate Islam’s message to the world. Dr. Al-Draiweesh appreciated the efforts of organizers to hold book fair and hoped that this tradition will continue in the university with visible promotion.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, Dr. Arshad Zia was of the view that present era has diverted the tendencies towards modern and technological gadgets but such book fairs are prime sources to promote culture of book reading.
He welcomed all the representatives of book publishers and briefed the participants about book fair. He said such curricular activities enhance the students’ abilities and develop profession skills; trend of book readings has declined and such book fairs play key role to encourage reading culture.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Dr. Muhammad Munir Khan, Vice President, IIUI, Mr. Sher Nowroz Khan Chief Librarian, deans, directors and large number of student were also present at inaugural ceremony.
Meanwhile, university would hold events of dramatics, arts and other activities in connection to Spring Gala on Thursday.
