NAB to probe Mush’s assets, authority misuse

| Also authorises inquiries against Durrani, Ali Jahangir Siddiqui

ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau’s executive board meeting Friday authorised several corruption inquiries and investigations against former president Pervez Musharraf, Federal Minster for Housing Akram Khan Durrani, newly-nominated Pakistan ambassador to United States Ali Jahangir Siddiqui and others.

An inquiry was authorised against Musharraf in case of misuse of authority and assets beyond means.

NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal chaired the meeting and authorised inquiries, investigations and filing of references against corrupt persons.

The executive board meeting authorised a corruption reference against former Capital Development Authority chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, former member finance Saeedur Rehman and others. They have been accused of indulging in corruption and misuse of authority in the construction of Cultural Complex Shakarparian, Islamabad, and causing loss of Rs 471.498 million to the national exchequer.

The NAB board also approved filing of corruption reference against former NICL chairman Abid Javed Akbar, management of FDBIL and others for making investments of over Rs 100 million by misusing authority and causing loss of Rs 67.056 million to the national exchequer.

The executive board meeting authorised second inquiry against former Pakistan ambassador to Cuba Kamran Shafi and others. The executive board meeting decided to take action against Kamran Shafi under 31-A over non-cooperation with NAB.

The third inquiry was authorised against the officers of federal tax ombudsman, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and others. They have been accused of doling out tax refunds illegally, causing loss of millions of rupees to the national kitty.

The executive board meeting authorised fourth inquiry against Housing Minister Akram Khan Durrani, managing director, chief executive officer (CEO), PHA Foundation, Jamil Ahmed Khan, Company Secretary Zafaryab Khan and others for illegally allotting PHA Foundation’s allocated land for mosques situated at Kurri Road, Sector I-12, to favourites.

The fifth inquiry was approved by the executive board meeting against Bank of Punjab President Naeemuddin Khan and others. They have been accused of maneuvering prices of shares and inside trading in the Bank of Punjab.

The NAB executive board meeting authorised sixth inquiry against, chief mechanical engineer, (C&W) Pakistan Railways, Adnan Shafi, and others for allegedly buying 1,405 hooper wagons for replacing coal, inflicting Rs 168 million loss to the national kitty.

The executive board meeting authorised seventh inquiry against Tariq Javed, Makhdoom Umer Shahryar and others for suspicious transactions. The eighth inquiry was authorized against Habib Waqas, Ilyas Meraj and the owners of Messers Helinible Limited Bhemas for allegedly indulging in corruption and establishing an offshore company as reported in Panama Papers.

The ninth inquiry was approved against former Punjab Assembly member Chaudhry Moonis Elahi and others for alleged corruption and setting up an offshore company as reported in Panama Papers. The meeting authorised 10th inquiry against Aleem Khan, Hexium Investments Overseas Limited and others for their alleged corruption and establishing offshore company as reported in Panama Papers. 

The 11th inquiry was authorised by the executive board meeting against Abdullah Yousaf and others over their involvement in corruption and creating an offshore company as reported in Panama Papers.

The executive board meeting authorised 12th inquiry against the officials of Muhammad bin Qasim Land Utilization Department, Sindh, for their alleged involvement in illegally allotting government land to private individuals by misusing their authority. In this case, they caused millions of rupees losses to the national kitty.

The executive board meeting launched 13th inquiry against former Pakistan Railways DG Ghulam Muhammad Qureshi for having assets beyond means.

The executive board meeting authorized 14th inquiry against Jehangir Siddiqui, officers of Sindh Social Relief Fund and others for allegedly misappropriating Rs 3 billion of Sindh Social Relief Department.

The executive board meeting approved 15th inquiry against the officers and officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority and others for their alleged involvement in illegal recruitment and misuse of authority.

The NAB board ordered 16th inquiry against the officers and officials of PHA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, over their involvement in misappropriation of the funds allocated for the construction of road network in Jalozai Housing Scheme, Nowshera. In this case, they caused loss of Rs 795.6 million to the national kitty.

The executive board meeting authorised 17th inquiry against Additional Inspector General Police Dr Mujeebur Rehman and others for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of government funds, corruption and having assets beyond known sources of income, causing loss of Rs 267 million to the national kitty.

The 18th inquiry was authorised against Larkana Development Authority Chairman Aamir Zaib Jatoi and others for allegedly making assets beyond means, misuse of authority and their involvement in corruption, which inflicted loss of Rs 333.648 million to the national kitty.

The executive board meeting authorised 19th inquiry against Jacobabad XEN Irrigation Muhammad Sharif Mughairi and others for misappropriating funds and inflicting loss of Rs 501.755 million to the national exchequer.

The executive board meeting also authorised 20th inquiry against Ghotki SMEDA Director Anwar Ali Sial and others for their involvement in inflicting Rs 1.9 billion losses to the national exchequer through alleged illegal appointments, corruption and misappropriation of government funds.

The executive board meeting authorised investigation against the management of Abbottabad International Hospital and others for their alleged involvement in misuse of authority.

The executive board meeting ordered closure of investigations against director, Umair Steel Industries Private Limited, Lahore, and others for lack of proof.

The executive board meeting also ordered closure of inquiry against former director, distance learning education, Bahauddin Zakaria University, Multan, Muhammad Ishaq Fani, and others for lack of evidence.

The executive board meeting also authorised closure of inquiry against the officers and officials of National Bank of Pakistan, Bahrain branch, for lack of evidence.
