One-wheeled happiness

Being a citizen of an independent state, it is our foremost right to celebrate our day of independence. But that does not mean that we should cross every limit and violate all rules and regulations. We need to remain a little less affected in situations of both crises and happiness because excess of everything is bad. We need to be a little stricter on this principle on the New Year night, August 14 and the chaand raat before Eid. These are the occasions when people come on roads, especially teenagers who drive their motorbikes and cars very rough with loud music blaring away. They are prone to block the roads without any rhyme or reason, often creating massive traffic jams. Often, they also resort to one-wheeling, a form of rash driving that can have deadly consequences for their own lives and limbs. Every year, many families get destroyed due to deaths of their young children in indulgence of this 'sports'. Our happiness depends on the way we celebrate but we should do so in a way that inspires other people and nations. - SADIA ZAFAR BAIG, Lahore, August 18.
