PkMAP hijacked by self-centred persons: Khattak

PESHAWAR Quitting his seat as a member of the central committee of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Umar Khattak has said that the party was hijacked by certain self-centred persons. He said it issued dictation without any consideration for the opinion of the office-bearers of the party. In such kind of dictatorial garb over the party management, he said, it was no longer possible to go with PkMAP. Umar Khattak said this while addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday. In the presence of other party leaders on the occasion, he announced to quit the party ranks and said the party was itself denying the manifesto and the constitution of its management that it visualized. The silence and remaining in backdrop during the last four years was raising many questions on the status of the party, he said, adding that it was feared that the party was only in favour of maintaining pressure group in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rather to endeavour to streamline it as a functional political force of the region. He said that the old and seasoned members of PkMAP were worried for their political future and were rightly sliding towards other political parties from time to time. He said that the demand of ANP regarding separate province for Pashtuns in Balochistan was made to appease PkMAP and in the exchange the latter supported the former policies. The party which claimed to represent Pashtuns from Bolan to Chitral and asserted for their unity were talking about new province was signalling more of division between Pashtuns than unity, he maintained. The disgruntled Umar further said that Pashtuns were subjected to ruthless killings in Karachi but the party has shut their eyes to the facts on the ground that was more concerned phenomena for the sincere party workers and it was no more possible to linger on with it and quit the party membership not only at the Central Committee level but also as a provincial secretary information and basic party membership as well.
