LAHORE As the Eidul Fitr is drawing nearer, the pace of shopping and the number of armed robberies are locked into a race for the first place in the Punjab Capital. With a great hustle and bustle in bazaars and shopping malls, the robbers are striking across the City with impunity. Interestingly, the police are also on 'high-alert in the town but unable to control street crimes as armed men riding on motorcycles are looting houses, families, shoppers, shopkeepers, motorists and even passersby. Eid shopping is in full swing at all City markets, where traders have started putting up decorations and displays to lure customers to sell their products like hot cakes. Dacoits are also out on the roads, committing armed robberies and depriving the shoppers of their belongings. For instance, armed robbers on Friday struck the Punjab Capital for more than 16 times successfully, looted houses, shops, families and motorists, and made off with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from across the City. According to the police sources, dacoits on Saturday continued their looting spree, hit the provincial metropolis for several times and made off cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs two million from different parts of the City. As per police record, Muhammad Safdar along with his family was on his way to a nearby market for shopping when two gunmen riding on a motorcycle intercepted him near 1st roundabout Samanabad. The bandits held up the female members at gunpoint and snatched away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 450,000, leaving the car-rider family to go back home instead of market for shopping. A housewife, Saira Hameed, told the police that she along with her children was on her way to Moon Market when two armed bandits intercepted their car in Nawan Kot police area. They were deprived of cash, gold ornaments and mobile phones were worth Rs 250,000 at gunpoint. Another car-rider, Muhammad Abid, along with his wife was on his way to a market for Eid shopping when two gunmen on a motorcycle intercepted his car in garden Town police area. The bandits held up the couple at gunpoint and escaped after collecting cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 275,000. The police have registered the case and are investigating. One Rahmat told Ghaziabad police that he was coming back after withdrawing Rs 150,000 from a bank when two motorcyclists held him up at gunpoint and fled away after snatching the cash and his cellular phone as well. Sajid Ali was on his way home when two motorcyclists equipped with pistols stopped him in Shamnagar, the vicinity of Islampura police. The bandits held him up at gunpoint and snatched away Rs 45,000 and a mobile phone from him. Another motorcyclist, Shaukat Ali, told the police that two robbers intercepted him near the shrine of Baba Chatri Wala in Ravi Road police precincts. The gunmen snatched away his motorcycle (LRE-3524), mobile phone and purse. Two motorcyclists intercepted Mateen in Akbari Gate police area and snatched away cash and prize bonds worth Rs 180,000 after holding him hostage at gunpoint. Police said that one Zafar Ali was on his way to a nearby market for shopping when two gunmen intercepted him at Dev Samaj Road in Islampura police area. He was deprived of Rs 20,000 and a mobile phone at gunpoint. Inaam Ali told the police that three robbers equipped with automatic weapons barged into his house (No-14, Street No 10) situated in Harbanspura police vicinity and made off with cash, gold ornaments, clothes and other valuables worth 300,000. Maqsood was on his way home when two gunmen stopped him near Shahdra More, the vicinity of Shahdra police. The bandits held him up at gunpoint and snatched away his motorcycle (LER-5834), mobile phone and purse, containing Rs 10,000. It will not be out of context to mention here that robbers shot dead a mother of four as she tried to put up resistance during road robbery in Sabzazar police area on Thursday. Saira Bibi, the wife of a local trader, along with her driver was coming back after shopping when robbers riding on motorcycle intercepted her. The bandits shot her dead on offering resistance and snatched away her gold ornaments.
