ISLAMABAD - The 6th plenary of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) will be held in Islamabad from 8th to 11th December 2013 in which Chairman Senate Sayed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari is expected to be elected as President of the APA for two years.

Preparations for hosting the three-day summit are in full swing. A meeting of the organizing committee of APA was held here on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed to discuss the modalities and assign tasks to various departments in the Senate Secretariat. Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Additional Secretary Senate Sharifullah Wazir, Joint Secretary Senate Major (R) Syed Hasnain Haider and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The committee was informed that President of Pakistan and Prime Minister would address the APA where as Chairman Senate would preside over the session of the assembly.

It is worthy to mention that 41 Asian countries have full membership in APA and 17 others have observer status, which also includes Australia and Japan.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed observed that APA would play a key role in promoting regional peace, stability and security besides creating interfaith harmony and enhancing cooperation to tackle the environmental pollution and other threats posed by climate change. He said that future belongs to Asia and the assembly has great importance. He gave directions to different departments to make the APA successful.
