WASHINGTON-The United States today said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is a constitutionally elected head of the government of Pakistan.

“We support the constitutional and electoral process in Pakistan, which produced Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif . We are focused on working with Pakistan,” said State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf, at the daily briefing.

"We do not support any extra-constitutional changes to the democratic system,” she added.

US will continue to work with the Pakistanis, she said. She brushed aside the suggestion of regime change and urged a peaceful political dialogue.
