KARACHI - Karachiites paid glowing homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companion martyrs of Karbala for their great sacrifice as the city’s central procession—taken out from Nishtar Park—culminated peacefully at Hussanian Iranian Imarbargah in Khardar after passing through its traditional routes amid tightened security.
The participants including men, women, children and oldage people as well clerics paid glowing homage to commemorate the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family and companions. The procession passed through Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasaan, Boulton Market, Preedy Street, Bombay Bazaar, Tibet Chowk, Nawaz Mohabbat Khanjee Road before being culminated at Kharadar’s Hussainian Iranian Imambargah. The participants offered Zuhren prayer during the procession. Different scouts, rescue services, political parties and city administration also established medical camps in a state of readiness throughout the procession route. Water ‘Sabeels’ have also been established from where the mourners were provided drinks, tea and other food items. Fire brigade and other rescue providers remained on a high-alert in case any emergency arises.
Security
Inspector General Sindh Police Mushtaq Maher said that total 6,133 policemen were deployed and 153 mobilsed vehicles took part to ensure security for the main procession of Ashura. He said this while briefing Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah at CPO on Thursday. The CM was accompanied by Minister Information Saeed Ghani and Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab.
The chief minister was told that the Muharram procession started from Nishtar Park. Its route was Guru Mandar, MA Jinnah Road, Sadar Dawakhana, Empress Market, regal Chowk, Tibet Centre where Nimaze-e-Zuhrain was offered at 1.30pm and then the procession continued to move towards Denso Hall, Bolton Market, Plastic Market and Terminated at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah at 6pm.
The IG said that on the route of the main procession 15 sensitive points were identified, including Business Recorder Road at Patel Para, Guru Mandar, Numaish, Britto Road, Lines area, Sadar Dawakhana, Empress Market, Singer Chowk, Tibet Centre, Light House, Merewether Tower, Lee Market, Tower, Hussainain Iranian and Native Jetty. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the procession route the deployment of police was made.
