India and Pakistan have wasted their energies over the last 61 years for nothing. They fought three wars for nothing. India invaded East Pakistan in 1971 and paved the way for founding of a country called Bangladesh. But India gained nothing. Bangladesh remained an Islamic country despite Indian efforts to convert it. People of India and Pakistan are suffering from poverty and hunger. Their children lack education, their cities in ruin, their farms a wasteland. They lack education, health care and civic facilities. Is it not sad that despite all this, we are still headed towards yet another conflict? Both countries need to read writing on the wall; if they went to war, it will be complete destruction of them both because both possess nuclear weapons now. -SYED MUZAMMIL HUSSAIN, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, December 15.
