Minarets crouched in fear

Years ago, that great leader and a man with a mission, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, won this piece of land for a separate state for the Muslims of India. In his speech on August 11, 1947, he said clearly, "You are free to go to your mosques, churches or temples or to any other place of worship in this state of Pakistan". Are we free today? People going to mosques have a fear at the back of their mind that they might be next on the list of militant targets. The concern of parents is that children might be indoctrinated if sent to the mosques and that stops them from joining the congregations. Due to evil religious leaders in seminaries, the young ones are mostly deprived of quality religious knowledge and do not know that Islam teaches moderation in everything. Extremism grown in mosques and seminaries has spread and forced us to change our lifestyles in numerous way. Citizens strongly believe that we have to speak unanimously against extremism. We have to fight extremism and bring 'Jinnah kaa Pakistan' back into life. This is not the country he dreamt of. -HIRA MIR, Islamabad, December 16.
