Altaf phones Munawar, Sajjad

KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain made a telephonic contact with Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan, his arch political rival, on Monday and discussed with him various important issues especially RGST, foreign interference and internal and external threats being faced by the country. The MQM chief also contacted Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Wasim Sajjad as a part of his political consultations with all the political forces of the country. These calls were made hours after a high powered MQM delegation called on President Asif Ali Zardari to brief him about their reservations and grievances after the recent provocative statements of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. Altaf Hussain in his telephonic conversations with Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan and Opposition Leader in the Senate Wasim Sajjad stressed the need for unity of all the political and religious parties in order to steer the country out of present crises. Talking to Munawar Hassan, Altaf Hussain said that MQM wanted to free the country from the benevolence and largesse of foreign powers. He appreciated the stance of Jamaat-e-Islami on RGST and foreign intrusion and said that all the political parties should prefer national interest to anything else. JI Chief Munawar Hassan hailed Altaf Hussain for his wish with regard to national harmony and stressed. He said that a better line of action could be found for the welfare and security of the country if all political forces in the country were taken into confidence. While in his telephonic talks with Wasim Sajjad, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain said that corruption had taken the form of a running sore in every department of the country and the economic condition was explosive. He said that the Almighty had endowed the country with oil, gas, coal and other natural resources that must be exploited in order to bring progress and prosperity in the country. He said that MQM had taken a principled stance on the issue of RGST because MQM being a representative party of poor and middle class feels itself accountable before its voters and hence it cannot endorse RGST under any condition. Agreeing with Hussain Sajjad proposed an All Parties Conference for bringing the country out of present crises.
