LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the government has decided to set up model sastey bazaars for the provision of meat, fruits, vegetables and other essential items to the people at affordable rates and suitable sites in major cities are being identified for this purpose. The sastey model bazaars will be operated by an autonomous management society and District Coordination Officers will be responsible only for their supervision, he said, while presiding over a high level meeting regarding establishment of the bazaars. MNAs Muhammad Afzal Khokhar and Mian Marghoob Ahmed, MPA Mohsin Latif, Secretaries of Industries and Local government, Commissioners Lahore and Rawalpindi, Director General LDA, DCOs Lahore, Gujranawalla, Faisalabad and other officers concerned were present. The CM was given a detailed briefing regarding the plan, design and other matters pertaining to the proposed sastey bazaars. The CM said the Punjab government was establishing model sastey bazaars for the provision of quality essential items to the common man at affordable rates, and the construction work of sastey bazaars would be outsourced and autonomous management society would be set up for operating these bazaars. The DCOs will be responsible for taking action against the elements involved in overcharging, sale of substandard items and short weighing, he said, while directing that final recommendations should be submitted to him within 24 hours.
