KARACHI - At least three people were killed and seven others wounded when an explosive device planted on the car of a police official went off in Old Sabzi Mandi area of sprawling Karachi on Friday, officials said.

Tanoli was going in his car along with his three police guards when a remote control device exploded the car. The car was completely destroyed while the shops and houses located in the surrounding areas were also partially damaged. Followed by the blast, the car caught fire and the victims were hardly rescued and shifted to the hospital. Witnesses said two of the victims were found dead on the spot while seven others wounded in the blast were shifted to the hospital. Heavy contingent of police and rangers rushed to the area following the blasts. They cordoned off the area. The fire tenders were also called to extinguish the fire. Experts of Bomb Disposal Squad also rushed to the spot to examine the nature of the blast.

The BDS experts believed it was an IED which was exploded with the help of a remote control. The device was carrying some 2-4 kilogramme explosives. Tanoli remained safe and shifted to a private hospital where doctors termed his condition out of danger. Two unknown passersby died on the spot.

It is worth mentioning here Tanoli used to conduct a number of alleged encounters.

These encounters, included the encounter of Liaquat aka Tension who was nominated in the murder of local private TV journalist Wali Babar. Tanoli’s brother was also gunned down in revenge of his efforts against the criminals. SP CID Aslam Khan when contacted said the blast targeted Tanoli when he was going outside his house.
