ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Friday agreed to support each other's candidates in the election for the Senate on the seats from the Federal Capital and NWFP giving hope to the unopposed elections from here as well. The understanding was reached here at a meeting between PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Senator Ishaq Dar of PML-N, at the PM House. The PML(N) also agreed to withdraw some of its candidates for the Senate election both from Federal Capital and NWFP, with an objective to achieve national reconciliation and to promote democratic norms in the country. The meeting, held for consultations on the forthcoming Senate election, was attended by Leader of the House in Senate Federal Ministers Raza Rabbani and Waqar Ahmed Khan also a candidate for the upcoming Senate elections from NWFP on PPP ticket. Prime Minister Gilani urged all the political parties to respect each other's electoral mandate in the Senate elections. He appreciated the role of political parties in showing a comprehensive understanding in Senate elections for Sindh and Punjab, by setting unprecedented example of a smooth and unopposed election. Gilani also thanked the leadership of PML-N for facilitating and respecting the mandate of the people in Punjab and said these measures had also helped in checking the curse of horse-trading. Prime Minister Gilani hoped that similar political sagacity would prevail in the Senate elections and hoped other partners too would follow suit in the greater national interest to achieve political stability in the country. Ishaq Dar reciprocating the goodwill gesture thanked Prime Minister Gilani for his initiative, on behalf of the PML-N, for achieving greater national political reconciliation in the country.
