LAHORE - Federal Minister for Sports Pir Aftab Shah Gilani said that Senate Sports Committee is the part of the parliament which itself is a supreme body. The Senate Sports Committee has all rights to scrutinise the affairs of all sports bodies including the Pakistan Cricket Board and Ministry of Sports, he said and added that it can thoroughly interrogate their affairs. He said the Sports Ministry would not take action against PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt's statement in which he challenged the authorities of the Senate Sports Committee (SSC) as Sports Ministry is itself working under the committee. However, the SSC would take action against the PCB Chairman in near future. While talking to newsmen at the Lahore Airport, he said Mohammad Yousaf was disgruntled and disappointed when he met him. He complained that the PCB mishandled his ICL case. He said he would solve his genuine problem with consensus. For this, he hoped, Yousaf would also extend his cooperation. He also criticised the 3-member committee led by Director National Cricket Academy constituted to probe into the Oval Test affairs. He was of the view that committee should consist a prominent national cricketers beside the PCB members. To a question, Pir Aftab said the PCB's amended constitution would hopefully be approved by PCB Patron-in-Chief Asif Ali Zardari by the end of the current month. He further dislcosed that committee which is probing the causes of Pakistan hockey defeat in Olympic has been requested to submit report within three weeks. He said the Sports Ministry is working hard under Sports Secretary Ashraf Khan in chalking out plans to regain pride in sports.
