ISLAMABAD After the transfer of Director General of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to another office of the ministry, FDE office work has come to a standstill as she has refused to relinquish her charge against the unlawful removal. It is also learnt that the Education Ministry has reinstated Ch Sadiq and Farzana Gondal as directors who had been suspended on corruption charges regarding appointments in schools and colleges. Referring to her transfer, DG Federal Directorate of Education Dr Shehnaz A Raiz informed that the officials of the ministry had been putting a lot of pressure on her to reinstate them but she had taken a stand that she would not reappoint them at FDE. Dr Shehnaz was appointed as DG, FDE, by the Prime Minister on the directives of Supreme Court after years legal battle. She fought her case in the Supreme Court and Federal Services Tribunal (FST) for her promotion to Grade 20, which was overdue against 100 percent promotion post of DG. But hardly one month had gone she was given the charge as the DG FDE, the minister transferred her to Academy of Education Planning and Management as DG and Shaheen Khan, Chairperson Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE) has been given acting charge of the directorate but Dr Shehnaz has not relinquished the charge yet. On contact, Dr Shehnaz told TheNation that she went to her office but it was locked by Shaheen Khan so she returned home. She said the Education Ministry officials had been levelling baseless charges against her to cover up their own poor performance. Actually the reason is that I have refused to be a part of any illegality and how can they judge my performance in one month. She alleged that Additional Secretary of the Ministry, Jhuman J Jhamro, asked her to appoint people against the posts of grade 9 to 14 and also on the posts of accountants at FDE while recruitment process had been closed on July 3, 2009. She said that she refused to oblige his orders as they were illegal and had already created a lot of mess since the posts were not created properly and AGPR had also refused to release the salaries of thousands of employees appointed by the former officials of the directorate. The Education Secretary, Imtiaz Qazi, when contacted confirmed that the DG had been transferred to Academy of Education Planning and Management. Transfers and postings are routine matters and there is no issue in it he said adding if there is something illegal in the matter it will be sorted out later. Adviser to Prime Minister on Education Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali also refused to comment on the issue saying, I am not answerable to any one. Its an internal matter of the Ministry and I can transfer any one to another office of the ministry.
