ISLAMABAD (APP) - Italian and Pakistani entrepreneurs here on Saturday jointly established a company named 'Impresa Pvt Ltd to promote trade and business between both the countries. The launching ceremony was held here which was attended by the Ambassador of Italy Vincnzo Prati, Deputy Finance Minister Guisap Vagus along with other members of Italian and Pakistani businessmen. The company consists of 25 leading Italian and Pakistani entrepreneurs working for many years in the field of development and business corporation between the two countries. It is active in various field of agri-business and agro-food areas and is addressed primarily to the local market. The main objective of the company is to work for the promotion and collaboration for the business communities to achieve the objectives of sustainable development in the agri-business sector through trade, pilot projects and marketing. The company would also provide agri-mechanization and technologies, equipments and services, organic agriculture, green house technologies and, water and irrigation technologies. Impresa would also provide fertilizers, seeds, fruit plants, post harvest and storage technologies for the promotion of the agri-sector in the country. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan appreciated the joint efforts of Pak-Italian business forum for launching the company for the benefit of the two countries people. Italian Deputy Finance Minister said that this joint venture would help further strengthen the political and economic ties between the two friendly countries by transferring modern technologies to the agri-sector of Pakistan. Pakistan is an agro-based economy because of this its economy was not suffered by the global recession, he added. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Ishfaq Ahmad said here on Saturday that Pakistan was looking for meaningful cooperation with Italy in various fields, particularly science and technology, higher education and power generation. Talking to Giuseppe Vegas, Italian vice Minister for Economy and Finance, Dr. Ishfaq said that the existing MoU on scientific cooperation between Pakistan and Italy could be used as an instrument for increasing collaboration. Renowned Physicist, Prof. Luciano Maiani, President Italian National Research Council also accompanied him while Italys Ambassador to Pakistan Vincenzo Prati, Planning Commissions Member Science and Technology, Dr. Samar Mubarakmand and Member Energy, Pervez Butt were also present during in the meeting. Dr. Ishfaq assured the Italian vice minister that government of Pakistan would provide necessary assistance to Italian investors in this regard. He said that Pakistan needs increased trade opportunities with developed countries, particularly in the EU region, in order to improve its economy and for providing better employment prospects to the Pakistani youth. He told the Italian vice Minister that Planning Commission has laid down its long term development priorities in Vision 2030 and is currently focusing on short term goals by formulating a five-year plan in the light of this Vision and governments nine-point development agenda. Dr. Samar Mubarakmand informed the visiting Minister that Thar area in Pakistan has one of the largest coal reserves in the world which are estimated at around 175 billion tonnes. He invited the Italian entrepreneurs to take advantage of this opportunity by investing in the underground coal gasification projects. Vegas said that he was greatly encouraged by his meetings with the Prime Minister, the Minister for Finance and the Minister of State for Economic Affairs the previous day and said that his government would encourage Italian businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan to take benefit of its growing market. He said his government would soon commence a viable programme for the development of Pakistan through scientific and technological channel.
