LAHORE - Mian Abdul Quddus of Hamid Khans Professional Group has been elected as President Lahore High Court Bar Association for the term 2010-11. In the annual elections of Lahore High Court Bar Association held here on Saturday Mian Quddus secured 3,091 votes while his main opponent Khawaja Mehmood Ahmad obtained only 1,675 votes. Khawaja Mehmood was a candidate of PML-N Lawyers Forum. PPP-led lawyers also backed Khawaja Mehmood. While another PLM-N led Khawar Ikram Bhatti bagged only 4,52 votes, Manzoor Ali Gillani got 155 and Moazam Iqbal Gill could secure 14 votes. Mian Shah Abbas won the slot of vice president by getting 2,813 votes. His rivals including Babar Khilji obtained 1,261 and Abid Minhas got 1,246 votes. Babar Murtaza of PML-N notched the slot of secretary by getting 2,696 votes against four other candidates. Babar had also support of professional group. Defeated candidates including Awais Raza Touseef got 1,464 votes, Ch Arshad Hussain 175, Sumaira Cheema 295 and Mian Waseem bagged 696 votes. On the slot of finance secretary, Raja Sajid Hanif was elected by obtaining 2,136 votes against their opponents Mian Azam and Mehar Abid Hanif who bagged 195 and 1,144 votes respectively. Earlier, the polling was held in a peaceful manner wherein 5,398 out of 11,168 eligible voters exercised their right of vote.
